Hi, I'm Joe โ Joseph Lee Graham on paper, but Joe Graham to just about everyone. Welcome to my space.
I think I was a photographer even before I knew it. I grew up and still live in the woods of Alabama. Some trees enjoy growing in the shade. For me, that shade was a profound family legacy of history, service, and community. Growing up in those shadows gave me a deep reverence for the past and a quiet, observant way of looking at the world.
I've always had a curious eye. When I finally bought my first camera in college, it felt like we belonged together. I quickly changed my major from history to photography, with a brief detour into film, and never looked back.
I graduated from UAB with a degree in photography. Being classically trained means I know my way around mixing chemicals and using a changing bag in the dark. After school, I interned with a local commercial photographer, assisted a few high-end wedding photographers, and eventually cut my chops shooting portraits at a high-volume storefront studio.
Life eventually shifted, and I took some time away from the professional camera to focus on the ultimate job: raising my family. But over the last few years, I've reconnected with photography in a deeper way than ever before. Returning to my roots in the Alabama woods, I've found a renewed passion for capturing the quiet beauty of nature, wildlife, and the stories embedded in our local landscapes. I am having a blast constantly pushing my craft and growing my knowledge.
Now that I'm back behind the lens with a fresh perspective, I'm looking to collaborate with people who appreciate intentional, authentic imagery.
Nature & Conservation Projects: Organizations, publications, or local groups that need dedicated, patient visual storytelling to highlight regional wildlife and natural habitats.
Local Businesses & Artisans: Creators who need honest, high-quality imagery of their processes, products, or spaces, without the sterile feel of commercial stock photos.
Editorial & Historical Collaborators: Writers, publishers, or preservationists looking for a keen, curious eye to capture the mood, legacy, and authentic details of a specific place or story.
If you have a project that requires a thoughtful approach, a lot of patience, and a deep respect for the subject, let's connect.
